Lifeguard Chair at Cocoa Beach

Lifeguard Chair at Cocoa Beach

A lifeguard chair sits empty on the beach at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

And no, in case you are wondering, the lifeguards haven’t abandoned us here. On the contrary, we arrived too early for the lifeguards. They were there, going through their morning exercises, but it wasn’t time for them to take their positions yet. But it wasn’t long before they were out there guarding lives. Which usually just involves sitting and watching people as they are out in the water. But I would think that is a good thing, because they really have to go to work when bad things happen. And no one really wants that, do they?

Besides all of that, there is a lot that I like about this photo. Besides of course the memories of a nice visit to the beach that the photo brings back. I like how the red tones of the chair make it stand out from the background. I like the long shadows from the early morning sun. And I like the way the sunlight is glistening off the water in the background.

But then, overall I just like the beach. And this photo reminds me of why.
