Laura at Pinson Mounds
Photo Time
During our visit to Pinson Mounds State Park in Tennessee a few weeks ago, the scenery was beautiful. The trees were all turning a bright shade of green in the early spring. The sun was shining through the leaves. And everything was full of color.
I decided it would be a great time to get a few photos of Laura. So I reached into my camera bag and grabbed the 25mm prime lens, which does great for portrait-type photos. I was pretty happy with the results.
As you can see, when the aperture of the prime lens is wide open (i.e. a setting of f/1.8), the lens does a great job of creating bokeh. That is the fancy name for the out-of-focus background that is popular in these types of photos. With this lens and some careful focusing, I was able to have Laura be in sharp focus while keeping the background blurred.
These photos were taken while we were on the nature trail boardwalk that goes through the swampy area of the park. On our previous visits, this boardwalk had been closed due to high water. We were happy to see that it was open this time, and we were glad to get to walk on a different trail than the ones we had been on before. Always exciting to do something new, even if it is just walking on a different trail. We are easily amused. And there is nothing wrong with that.
Too Many Photos?
Laura sometimes complains that I take too many photos of her. But I disagree. I never know what “too many photos” means these days, anyway. I still have room left on my memory card, and I am not having to pay for film or photo processing. So how can it be too many photos?
Fortunately, she usually does not completely refuse to have her photo taken. She just protests a little and then smiles for the camera. It is always nice to have someone that will put up with your habits. Even when those habits are taking lots of photos.
Besides, having lots of photos is a great way to remember the day. The more photos we take, the more fun we must be having, right? So based on that, we were having plenty of fun that day.
As you might guess from the above paragraphs, I took lots more than two photos of her. But two is all that I will share here for now. It never hurts to save some for later, right? Watch for those sometime in the future.

About the Photos
The sunlight in the middle of the day required a little bit of processing work on these photos. But bringing up the shadow detail while bringing down the highlights was most of what I did here. I did adjust the colors ever so slightly as well to bring out the nice spring tones that we have been missing all winter long, but that was about it. Nice and easy.
