Laura at Sea

Laura looks out at the water from our verandah on the Disney Dream, from our Disney Cruise this past summer. This was from our day at sea, and for most all of the day this was the view - clouds and water, and nothing else for as far as you could see. There were a few passing ships from time to time, but those didn’t stay around too long. Always cool to feel that far away from everything, with just you, the ship, the clouds, the water, and a few thousand of your new friends being all that you see for the entire day.

If this photo looks familiar, then you must have read Day 4 - At Sea from our 2015 Disney Cruise Trip Report, because this photo was the first one used in that post. And if you haven’t read the report and this photo still looks familiar, then you must be experiencing deja vu or something, because that is the only other time it has been posted here or anywhere else.

Anyway, when I was gathering photos for that portion of the trip report, I really liked this photo of Laura and the water. So I took another look at it, and gave it a fresh pass through the old processing process, which gave it a different look from the version used in the trip report. I liked that one, but I like this one even better. Of course, this one took a little more time to put together, but it was worth it, I think.

God called the dry land “earth,” and He called the gathering of the water “seas.” And God saw that it was good. - Genesis 1:10

About the Photo

For this version, I used three different “exposures” from the same RAW file. The first exposure was just a standard one. The second exposure was a bit brighter, and I used Laura from that version. The third exposure was a bit darker, and I used it for the clouds and the sky, putting them all together with masks in Photoshop. A bit of manual HDR processing, in many ways.

A single RAW exposure, processed in Photoshop. Read more about the photo software and gear I use at the camera gear page.
