Laura at Ames Plantation

Laura stops for a quick photo at Ames Plantation near Grand Junction, Tennessee, at the end of the Ames Plantation Heritage Festival. She was there selling her handmade jewelry, and she had even made the jewelry that she was wearing.

The day started out to be a cool one, but it finally warmed up in the afternoon. The cool weather apparently didn’t keep the crowds away, and Laura said she had one of her most successful days ever this year, selling-wise. Having a hobby you enjoy is always made even better if you can make some money off of it.

While there was still lots to see at the festival, one of my favorite things wasn’t there this year, as the Civil War guys didn’t bring their cannon and fire it. They did fire some muskets every hour, but those just aren’t quite as loud as a cannon, unfortunately. I’m sure they had a perfectly good reason for not being there, but I still missed it. Oh well, maybe next year.

About the photo:
This was just a quick shot as Laura was walking across the field. No elaborate posing - she just stopped for a couple of seconds as I snapped the photo. But I have been reading several articles about portrait photography and editing portrait photos, so I put some of those techniques to work here to get just the right look that I wanted.
