Laura and the Disney Fantasy

Cruising Again!

Laura and the Disney Fantasy, one of the Disney Cruise Line ships, at Cozumel, Mexico

Laura stands near the Disney Fantasy, one of the Disney Cruise Line ships, at the Cozumel dock in Mexico.

Way back in March 2019, we booked a Disney Cruise on the Disney Fantasy for June 2020. The cruise was for the three of us, my parents, and our friends the Luttrells. But you can probably guess what happened to that cruise, along with most everything else that was scheduled for 2020. So we rebooked for June 2021. Once again, that cruise was canceled, because cruise lines had still not been able to resume sailing. We rebooked again, this time for June 2022. And as they say, the third time was the charm! The result was our 2022 Disney Cruise!

There were several differences between this cruise and our previous Disney Cruises. For one thing, this was a 7-night cruise, which was a great length; our previous Disney Cruises had all been 4 nights. This time, we cruised on the Disney Fantasy, which was our first time on this ship. And we went to some ports that we had not been to before, including George Town, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth, Jamaica. The cruise also stopped at Cozumel (as seen in the above photo), but Laura and I had been there before on a Carnival Cruise, although on that previous cruise we did not actually spend much time in Cozumel. And we also stopped at Castaway Cay, which we have visited several times before.

Also, there were several changes to cruising due to COVID-19, too. Some of them were good, such as a more efficient boarding procedure and a replacement of the safety drill with check-in on your own time. Others were not quite as good, such as not being able to get close to the characters, although I understand why they made that change.

In spite of some of the changes, and maybe even because of some of the other changes, we all had a great time on this cruise. As you can imagine, I have lots and lots of photos to share, and there are lots of stories that go along with them. Those are all coming once I get them more organized. Look for a traditional trip report, as I have done with our past cruises, coming sometime in the future.

One More Photo

Laura and Steve in Cozumel, Mexico

But while you wait, here is one more photo of us, once again in Cozumel. The first photo above was when we were leaving the ship in the morning, and this second photo was from later on in the day when we could see the ship in the distance. If you follow some of the Burnsland social media accounts, you might have seen this photo before, but I thought it was worth sharing again here, too.

Even though we traveled with a relatively large group of 9 people, different subgroups of us often did things on our own. While several of us explored Cozumel together in the morning, Laura and I stayed behind for a little more exploring of our own. It was good to all be together, and it was good to do our own things sometimes, too. And then we enjoyed talking about it all at dinner each night. Fun times!

About the Photos

As you might be able to tell, these photos were taken in different ways. I took the first one with my camera and 35mm prime lens. And then I took the second one with my iPhone at arm’s length. Both kinds of photos are good, and they serve different purposes. But they both contain good memories!

Photo: First: A single Raw exposure, processed in Luminar Neo. Second: An iPhone photo. Read more about photography tips, photo software, camera gear, and more at Steve’s Photography Tips.
