The Last Rose of Summer

The last bloom on our rose bush for the summer. Okay, so this may not be THE last rose of the summer, but it is definitely close to the last. There are still a few more buds that might open up, depending on the weather. But not many.

While I am definitely a fan of the summer and its warm weather, I do enjoy the change that the fall season brings. Interesting colors, brisk mornings, jackets, hats, shorter days, and so on.

And besides, fall is usually easier on my sinuses than the spring ever is.

This photo has perhaps a different look to it than what you might usually expect to see here. Although the color of the rose was rather vibrant, I chose to go with this more “antique” look to show the fading life of the rose, and I think it works well.

This photo also has more bokeh (the term for the blurry, out of focus parts) than most of the photos I have taken in the last few years. Wide angle images aren’t usually all that well suited for bokeh, and for those I usually set the aperture so that the entire image is in focus. But here I used the zoom lens on the Canon EOS-M and opened the aperture up as wide as it would go to create some bokeh and have the rose stand out from the background. It turned out just about exactly as I had pictured it in my mind.
