Just Another Colorful Sunset at Home

It seems that we have had several interesting sunsets lately. Occasionally, I get to document them with the camera, such as the sunset above.

On this occasion, I was doing a little work outside as the sun was setting behind some rather thick clouds. When I saw the sky, I stopped what I was doing, went inside to grab my camera, and went back outside to get some photos of the amazing sky. I took my camera inside and got back to work.

But then I saw that the sky was even better than it had been before. So once again, I went inside, got the camera, and went outside for some photos. If you are curious, this photo is from the second trip outside. I just thought the sky was nice the first time around.

As the summer winds down and autumn quickly approaches, the sun sets earlier and earlier. That is the way of the world, after all. Fortunately, I was able to finish what I was working on outside before it was completely dark, because I know it will not be all that long before I do not even get home before it gets dark outside. But I don’t mind. Early darkness makes for more relaxed evenings sometimes.

Also, this particular sunset came at the end of a slightly difficult day. I suppose it was God’s way of reminding me that everything is good. This world’s problems are light and momentary, and there are some amazing things waiting at the end of all of that.

Good to Be Home

I also thought it might be good to post some photos from home every now and then. Some people who only know us through the Burnsland website here sometimes wonder if we spend all of our time traveling and are rarely at home.

Actually, just the opposite is true. We spend most of our time at home, in the general sense of our home community, although some days it would be nice to be at our house all of the time. We only spend a couple of weeks a year traveling. Because we spend the rest of the year earning money for things like travel. And bills. And other stuff.

I do tend to take lots and lots of photos when we are gone, so that those photos last me much of the year when I am looking for something to post around here. So while you may see lots of travel photos posted here throughout the year, we are not some of those exotic types who spend all year traveling the world. 

While traveling is good, being home has lots of advantages, too. Especially when we have some nice sunsets like the one above. You can go all over the world and see some nice things. And you can step out your front door and see some nice things, too.

God’s beauty is all around us. All we have to do is to look for it.

About the Photo

As was mentioned above, this was one of those relatively quick photos where I grabbed the camera because I liked the view. I did take time to make sure the camera settings were right, of course. But by “quick” I mean that there was not much planning that went into this photo. No elaborate setups, no tripod, just a sunset and a camera. Nice and simple.

I did, however, spend a little time in Photoshop working on this, bringing up the shadow details to make the yard and the trees more visible while bringing down the highlights to make the sky look even better. Still relatively simple, but not quite straight out of the camera. But that’s okay. I don’t mind a little extra work on photos like this.
