Jaylin as the Cowardly Lion
At Jaylin’s school, the 4th through 6th grades recently put on a production of The Wizard of Oz. As you can see, Jaylin was one of the students to portray the Cowardly Lion. The main roles were performed by multiple students, and I am guessing that was because of the number of students and to give the students fewer lines to have to memorize. So Jaylin was the first Cowardly Lion in the program, and then he switched out with someone else halfway through.
He did quite well with his part, I thought, even though it wasn’t all that long. Maybe I am slightly biased, but I thought he was one of the best. Interestingly, when they were trying out for parts, he wanted to audition for something like a tree or a stagehand, but he wound up with a much bigger part than that. I don’t know if this will stir theater ambitions in him, but that wouldn’t be too bad.
It was good to finally get to see the show, too. Because of all of our winter weather this year, the show had been postponed twice, so I think everyone (especially the teachers) were happy to finally do it and be done with it.
The costume was borrowed from school, except for the face mask which Laura made. That was much easier than trying to paint his face, which I don’t think he would have liked at all.
While the above photo was taken in our kitchen the morning of the program, here is a photo from the show, featuring some motion action from the Scarecrow:
We weren’t in a very good spot for photos, so I was glad to have taken the one at home. Maybe I should get him to autograph it for me now before he becomes famous.
