It's a Small World at Sunset

The sky at sunset is almost as colorful as the facade of It’s a Small World in Fantasyland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. I think the two complement each other quite well. And yes, I know the somewhat traditional notation is “it’s a small world” (all lowercase). But you can even find it both ways on different official Disney websites. So I chose the way that looks best to me, which involves some capital letters. Because it may be a small world after all, but there are still capital letters in that small world just like there are tall people in that small world.

Also, I think that the thought of it being a small world is somewhat relative. The world doesn’t seem all that small if you are making a 15 hour drive from our house to Florida. And it really doesn’t seem small if you are making a 30 hour trip by plane to Bangkok, Thailand. However, it does seem small when you can talk to people as far away as Thailand or California using today’s modern technology, and it sounds no different than when you are talking to someone on the phone that is across town.

Remember the old days of television (I’m talking 1970s old) when a live broadcast from some remote part of the world was dim and fuzzy, and it sounded like the announcers were talking through tin can phones? And now, live television from around the world doesn’t look any different than a live broadcast on our local news stations. Everything is immediate, and immediately available.

So I guess in some ways, it really is a small world, after all. Even if it is still a big world.

About the photo:
For this photo, I combined two different “exposures” from the same RAW file. For the first one, I left everything pretty much normal, and that serves as the foreground with the Small World building. For the second, I turned the exposure down a good bit to bring out the sunset sky, and then I blended that one in with the first exposure using layer masks. So yes, it was a single shot, but it doesn’t look like this straight out of the camera.
