It Is Only Money
The big news the other day was that Facebook is buying Instagram for $1 billion. That’s $1,000,000,000 if you want to see it written out the long way. One billion dollars. Billion with a “b”. I don’t know about you, but to me, that is no small amount of money.
Just think how many bags of M&Ms you could buy with that kind of money. And maybe have enough left over for a nice car or two. And a house. Or two. And your own private island. Where you could take all the Instagram pictures you ever wanted to take. Although most private islands probably don’t have very good cell service to be able to actually upload those pictures to Instagram. But hey, what do you care? You don’t actually go to a private island to share things with people, do you?
I think that is great for the Instagram guys. All nine of them. Which would mean that each of them would get a good size chunk of that billion. And good for Facebook that they have that kind of money to throw around, too. Of course, there are several who are threatening to leave Instagram because they don’t like Facebook’s privacy policies. Although if you are posting pictures on Instagram, they aren’t exactly private in the first place.
But all of that got me to thinking. Maybe I should put my website up for sale. If anyone would like to buy Burnsland.com for $1 billion, I would probably be open to selling. Sentimental value is one thing. But stacks and stacks of money can make up for a lot of sentiment. And if you ask really nicely, I might even throw in the “Family” 10 percent discount, just to make the offer better for you. Because $900 million wouldn’t be all that bad, either.
After all, it is only money.
