Interesting Gate in Nassau, Bahamas

What Is It?

We passed by this interesting gate in Nassau, Bahamas, while we were walking through the city during our 2018 Christmas Disney Cruise.

This was not our first time to pass by this gate. And this was not my first time to photograph this gate, either. Apparently, we are rather regular on our walks in Nassau, often going the same way and seeing the same thing. Not that there is anything wrong with that, of course.

Every time we pass by this gate, I wonder a bit about what it is for, and about the building behind the gate. But I never have figured it out.

I decided to do a little bit of internet investigating, just to see what I could come up with. First off,
there is the number 15, which is the address on George Street. But a search for that does not turn up anything interesting.

Also, there is the sign. You almost can’t make out what it says, but it reads, “The Central Bank of the Bahamas.” I am sure of that, because a quick search turned up the Central Bank of the Bahamas Wikipedia page and the same sand dollar logo at the center of the sign. However, the Central Bank in Nassau operates out of a new, modern building, and not the building pictured here. Was this an earlier home to the Central Bank, maybe? That would be my guess.

Whatever it is, I still think the gate has an interesting look to it. And besides, that is probably all that I really need to know.

Too Much Information

In these modern times of the Internet Age, we have all kinds of information at our fingertips. And in these smartphone days, we can carry it around in our pockets. No longer waiting around to get to a computer to look something up. You can just pull out your phone and look it up right there. Unless, of course, you are in a foreign country and do not want to pay the roaming data rates.

But anyway, is all of that information really necessary? Do we really need to know every little detail about every little thing? Yes, in some ways it is nice. But in other ways, all of that data has started to take over our lives. We feel like we need to know everything about everything. And we want everyone to know everything about us these days. There really isn’t all that much gossip any more, because if the person posts it about themselves on Facebook, is it really gossip?

Sometimes it is best to just enjoy the big picture without worrying about all of the small details. Just take things for what they are with what you know about them. If it is not going to have a deep impact on your life, don’t worry about finding out more about it. Just move on, having enjoyed the experience. When you walk by an interesting gate, just say, “Hey, that is an interesting gate!” Maybe take a quick photo and then move on.

While I am somewhat curious about the gate in the photo above, I am living my life just fine not knowing what it is. I actually really had not given it a second thought until I looked back at this photo. And that is okay.

Don’t get bogged down with the details if the details are not really necessary.

About the Photo

Some folks will probably tell you that this photo should be centered better. The doorway of the building in the background should be centered more on the gate opening. That might be better for some people. But I like this photo just the way that it is. It looks like how you would see the gate and the building if you were just passing by. Which is what we were doing.
