Inside the Wilderness Lodge Lobby at Walt Disney World
Big and Tall
The main lobby of the Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World in Florida is a large, open space. The lobby is over five stories tall and features some interesting wood construction. At least it looks like wood. You never know with Disney these days.
One interesting feature of the lobby just barely fits in this photo. The large rockwork fireplace at the far right of the frame is made to resemble the layers of rock in the Grand Canyon. Pretty cool. And even though this was in July, there was someone sitting in one of the rocking chairs by the fireplace.
I have always wondered what it would be like to have a room that opened on to this lobby. Of course, because the door of the room is on the lobby side, you wouldn’t have a window view into the lobby or anything. But it still might be interesting. Of course, I have also always wondered what it would be like to have the money to have a room that opened onto this lobby. I will have to let someone else answer that question, however.
A Far Off Place
Even though we have not stayed there, we do enjoy dropping by the Wilderness Lodge whenever we can. It is a little more calm and quiet than the other Magic Kingdom Resorts, probably due to its remote location. The other resorts always have people coming and going thanks to the Monorail, but this one relies on boat and bus transportation, and it is not right on the main path to or from the Magic Kingdom.
In some ways, it does feel like it is far off into the wilderness, although it is actually quite close to most everything else at Walt Disney World. But then a hotel based on national park lodges wouldn’t feel right with a Monorail running right up to it, would it?

About the photo
Photos of the Wilderness Lodge lobby are always a little tricky. Because of the large space and the dark wood tones, the lighting does not seem very bright in the lobby. It is plenty bright for the normal lobby activities, of course. But it is a little dark for photographic purposes. And during the day, as when this photo was taken, the bright light coming in through the windows makes it all even more tricky. An evening or nighttime photo of this area might be a better idea, just in case you are wondering.
I balanced everything out as best I could with the Raw file and Photoshop, and then used some Nik filters to make it a little more interesting.
Also, “wilderness” is a difficult word for me to type correctly. I have no explanation for that. But I am thankful for spell checkers.
