In the Waves at Cocoa Beach
Nothing like being out in the waves at Cocoa Beach, Florida. And yes, I was holding on tightly to my camera for this photo so that I wouldn’t drop it in the water. If you are wondering, the camera really wasn’t quite as close to the water as it looks here, although it may still have gotten a drop or two of water on it as the waves splashed against me. While I had one eye on the camera viewfinder, I had the other eye watching off to the side so that there weren’t any big unexpected waves washing over me. It was all worth it for a shot like this.
Around this time for the last few years, we would be getting ready to head out to Cocoa Beach, Florida, for our annual adults-only trip. But this year things have been a little different in several areas. That’s why we made our cruise trip into a two-week trip, and that trip did include a couple of days at Cocoa Beach, one of which resulted in this photo. So it all worked out well. Except for not having a trip planned for right before school starts back. But we can live with that. Hopefully, it is only for this year.
Fortunately, we weren’t there at Cocoa Beach when there were any sharks around, which seems to have been a problem this year, and not just there but at beaches all over the state. We texted the Riedels to brag a little about being at the beach, and Karen texted back, “Watch out for sharks!” We thought, “Ha ha, that’s silly.” And then we learned later that she wasn’t kidding because there had been a shark attack there a few days before we were there. Wow!
I hate that for those that were there when sharks were around, because you can’t really figure that in when you are planning your vacation in advance. If someone could come up with a “Long Range Shark Forecast” that would be nice. And you could probably make some money doing it. Accuracy? Don’t worry too much about it, based on how things work out for weather forecasters. Just make a guess and call it “official.”
While we may not have had quite as much beach time this year as we sometimes do, that will just make the next time even better, too. Especially if the sharks go somewhere else for that summer.

About the photo:
I was really enjoying the f/1.8 aperture on the lens for this shot. It was a little tricky to focus right on the wave to have plenty of bokeh on the background, but after a few tries I was happy to end up with this shot. A few years ago, I would have wanted a wide angle view of this. Funny how our preferences change over time.
