I.C. Levy Store in Holly Springs

I.C. Levy Store in Holly Springs, Mississippi

On my recent stop in Holly Springs, Mississippi, I ran across the I.C. Levy Store on the Holly Springs town square. Unfortunately, what was once a clothing store is long gone. But the historic building that housed the store still stands.

According to the sign on the door, the building was originally built around 1865, making it more than just a few years old. Of course, lots of changes have come along since that time. I thought the tile entry and the woodwork in the ceiling were quite interesting, as they immediately caught my eye as I walked by. I also liked how the large glass windows reflected the other buildings of the town square, especially since there wasn’t that much to see inside the former store.

I sometimes try to picture what it was like to shop in stores like this instead of the megastores that we have today. It is nice to get everything in one place now, but those big stores don’t have the same charm that the smaller stores must have had.

They just don’t make stores like they used to.
