I Am Thankful For...
Thanksgiving is not just a time for turkey and dressing, although I am definitely thankful for that. And Thanksgiving is not actually meant to be the start of the Christmas season. Or the middle of the Christmas season if you are a retail store.
No, Thanksgiving is meant to be a time to give thanks to God for all the blessings that we have received. Here are just a few of the things I am thankful for:
The Internet - These days, it is difficult to imagine a world without the internet. I enjoy being in constant communication with people, getting up-to-the-minute news items, and learning more about the things I am interested in. The internet has truly changed our world, and I like it.
You - Yes, you. No, not those other people over there. You, right here. I’m thankful that you are here reading this. I’m thankful for everyone who reads my blog, or visits my site, or participates in the discussion board. Because without you, I would just be talking to myself. And I do appreciate the comments, the Twitter and Facebook replies, and whatever else that lets me know that I really am not just talking to myself. And a special thanks to those of you who have become friends, even if we haven’t met in person much, or at all.
Beyond the Berm - Actually, Beyond the Berm is just Matt Walker and me talking about the things that we like. Mostly Disney things, because that is something that we have in common. And then we record those conversations and put them on the internet for others to hear. I’m thankful for Matt and his participation. And I’m thankful for all of you who have listened in so far.
Church Family - We have a large church family at Bartlett Woods, and I am thankful for all that goes on there. It is great to be a part of a church where we can worship God and serve in so many ways. It keeps us busy sometimes, but that is good. And I am thankful that we have a God we can serve, a God who blesses us richly over and over again.
Extended Family - We have a large extended family, too, and that is great. And that extended family includes good friends who are at least as close as family, too. Always good to have someone to go eat with, or talk to, or do things with, or whatever else.
Necessities - I am thankful that we have all the necessities we need, as well as lots that we don’t actually need, too. Home, food, cars, television, books, movies, cell phones, animals, and so on. Some of those things make life easier, and some of them just make life more fun.
Health - We have been blessed with good health overall. Sometimes you take health for granted until you have an illness or you know of someone else who does. I am greatly thankful for the good health of our family, as well as our extended family, in the past year.
But here is what I am most thankful for:
No, not Cinderella Castle. I am thankful most of all for the people in the foreground - Laura and Jaylin. My family. I imagine life without them just wouldn’t be fun at all. I’m glad they put up with me.
So there is my list for Thanksgiving. Of course, you don’t have to be thankful just one day out of the year. If you are truly thankful for what you have, you will be thankful for it all year long. I am.
