The Great Snow of 2021 - Part 1
Snow on the Ground
For the first time in a long time, we received a significant amount of snow. This was a few days after the ice storm had come through, and fortunately most of that ice had melted. The snow actually arrived in a few rounds. Here are some photos from the first round of snow that we received.
First up is a view down our driveway. This is one of those “standard” views that regular Burnsland readers will recognize. Except of course that this time around everything is covered in snow. You can also see that we went for a walk down the driveway to check everything out. And we walked a few other places in the yard, too.
Laura and Jaylin tried some improvised sledding using a cardboard box, but they didn’t get very far. Our snow was quite powdery, and we didn’t have a very steep hill, either. That is Laura sledding and Jaylin pushing, by the way.
This photo almost looks like it belongs in the earlier Ice on the Trees post. But in this photo, snow has joined the ice on the trees. I love these types of winter scenes.
I mentioned in that earlier post that our house had been painted recently, so here is a better look at it. The new color is gray with a hint of blue. It is a pretty big change from the brown shades that had been there for a long time. Don’t look too closely, however, because there are still a few trim pieces left to paint. Plus, by this time most of the snow had melted off of the roof. Don’t worry, we got more snow to replace it the next day.
As you can see here, the horses are making it just fine in the snow. Bubba is sporting a stylish blue coat. The white parts even reflect light at night, making him even more stylish. Daisy has been staying in her stall due to some of her ongoing issues, but she is doing well, too.
Here are Laura and Jaylin after their sledding attempts. They are squinting because the sun was in their eyes. But no one was complaining at all about the sun. When we woke up on this particular morning, it was around 3 degrees Farenheit, which is much colder than what we are used to here. So the sun was welcome for any heat at all that it might have added.
Here is a look across the front yard. If you are wondering, the house is to the right, and the driveway is right behind where I was standing. We had about 4" of snow on the ground. You can still see some of the taller weeds sticking up through the snow. But don’t worry, they would vanish after the next snow.
And to close out, here is one more view across the driveway and the front yard. I liked the blue sky while we were out, although everything looked really neat the day before when it was all gray and snowing, too. Some sun makes everything seem happier.

Laura and Jaylin were definitely happy to have a break from school. And I was happy that we all got to be home together. We had plenty of food in the refrigerator and pantry so that we did not feel the need to try to get out in all of this winter weather. We were just fine at home. As I have said before, life is better if you look for the blessings in what you have instead of trying to wish for something else.
I took these photos after just the first round of snow that we received, as I mentioned a few times above. There was more on the way behind this. And of course, I took photos of that, too. So watch for a few more parts of the Great Snow of 2021 coming soon!

About the Photos
For these photos, I switched to the 28-70mm lens from the 50mm prime lens I had used for the ice photos. That was to get a wider view of everything, and also just for variety. I processed all of these photos in Luminar AI. However, I slightly modified the same preset I had used for the ice photos, and then used that preset for all of these photos. I think it worked well.
