Grass Cutting Time
Grass cutting time has arrived in full force around here!
Actually, it started over a month ago, and it seems like it started earlier than usual this year. I thought it was just my imagination until several other people mentioned it, too. I guess it is because of the mild winter that we had this year. Global warming and all that stuff, you know.
When I start cutting the grass, I am usually ready for it to be over pretty quickly. I can always think of other stuff to do when I am getting ready to start cutting. If there were only a way to do it more quickly.
Across the street from our office is a large empty field. About once a month, a big tractor comes to cut the grass in the field. Behind the tractor is a mower that has a 12’ span. Yes, twelve feet. It can cut 12 feet across at one time. It takes about 15 minutes to cut the one acre lot. I look at that and start figuring how long it would take to cut our yard with something like that. Wouldn’t that be fun?
But then once I get started cutting, and once I get adjusted to the heat on the hot days, it turns out to be rather nice and relaxing. After all, there really isn’t that much brain power required except to watch out for trees and bushes and other things you don’t want to run over or into. It is so loud that you couldn’t possibly talk to anyone, if anyone was right there beside you. Not much else to do but just cut. Of course, I can say that because I am on a tractor. Pushing a mower takes a bit more work, but not much more thinking.
So it is a good chance for my mind to wander and solve all the problems of the world. Unless you are one of those worrying types who create more problems when your mind wanders. But I am usually not that way. I am still always happy to be finished with the grass cutting, but it usually isn’t all that bad.
Which is a good thing, because just when it seems that we have all the grass cut, it is time to start all over again. And then once again, I will try to put it off for as long as I can.
