Give Kids the World Village Town Hall

As part of Jaylin’s high school band trip to Florida, we visited Give Kids the World Village, where the band performed a Christmas concert. You can read about that concert in the Back with the Band post, by the way.
You may know that Give Kids the World Village is a Central Florida resort for families with children who have serious illnesses. But all of that is forgotten here, and the focus of everything is fun and happiness.
I liked how that theme of fun was apparent in all of the buildings at Give Kids the World Village. The main building in this photo is the Town Hall, which includes a multipurpose space where the band played, along with a cafeteria. While some multipurpose buildings and cafeterias can be downright boring architecturally speaking, the Town Hall here is fun and whimsical. Bright colors cover the walls, and there is even a hint of candy here and there.
How Does It Look?
As a time-hardened adult, I have trouble imagining what someplace like this might look like to a child. But I would guess that it all looks much more inviting than some of the hospitals and medical facilities that many of these children have visited. While I might see a collection of buildings with bright colors, perhaps they see a place where they really want to be, and a place that looks happy to have them there.
And who really cares what all of us boring old adults think, anyway? This place is created for the children if you could not guess that by its name. Walking through there, with all of the bright colors and fun shapes can help bring out the child in some of us older folks, too.
You can’t help smiling when walking through a place like that. And that is what it was all about.

About the photo
Photos at Give Kids the World Village are a little tricky. The guide said we were free to take any photos that we wanted as long as they did not have any of the children or their families in them. I can completely understand that. That meant that sometimes I had to wait a moment for some people to pass by, but that’s okay. I did not mind.
Of course, I did dial up the color saturation just a little in processing. But that was actually more to highlight the blue sky than the colors on the building because those colors were already nice and bright. The white clouds in the blue sky were just a bonus.
