On the Galveston Beach in Texas
Over the Beach
Looking out over the beach and the Gulf of Mexico at Galveston, Texas, from our stop there after our 2016 Cruise to Mexico. The cruise left from Galveston, and therefore it also ended in Galveston. That was fortunate because that was where we left our car. Being the beach people that we are, we couldn’t resist spending a day at the Galveston beach, just to check it out and see how it compared to some of the other beaches we have visited.
Perhaps a more correct title for this post than “on the beach” should have been “over the beach,” because this photo was taken up above the beach. You can’t exactly tell it from the foreground of the photo, but we were standing on a wall that drops down six to eight feet to the level of the beach. If you follow the line of the wall in the photo on up to the right, you can see farther down just how high the wall was. It was interesting to see that. This is the Galveston Seawall that protects the island. The height difference is to keep the water out in the Gulf where it belongs and not on the island.
As you can see, the conditions were just about perfect when we visited the Galveston beach, and we enjoyed our afternoon there. It was a nice way to ease back into reality, somewhat, after our cruise ended. Baby steps, right? You can’t just immediately jump back into normal life after something like that, after all. So while we typically enjoy the larger waves of the Atlantic ocean over the smaller waves of the Gulf of Mexico, the Galveston beach still gets a great review from us.

Beaches We Have Visited
Maybe one of these days I will do an actual series of posts on Beaches We Have Visited. But truthfully we have not even scratched the surface of the beaches in the world. There are still lots and lots and lots of beaches that we have not visited yet. And probably lots that we never will get to visit, just because there are so many.
Still, we have been blessed to go to some pretty cool beaches, some of them just once while others of them many times. Hopefully, we are not done yet, and there are still many more beaches in our future. Only time will tell that, however.
I am sometimes surprised to learn that not everyone enjoys going to the beach. But that’s okay because we don’t all have to like the same things, right? That would make life boring.
So if you enjoy the beach like us, then I hope that you have many more beach visits in your future, too.

About the photo
I grabbed my camera as we walked along the Seawall when we went back to the car to get more stuff for the beach. Because of the height of the Seawall, we could not go straight to the car, having to walk along the wall for a short distance. I liked the view from up high.
I also liked the slight sun flare in the upper right of the photo, because the sun was strong that day. Be sure to wear sunscreen if you go to the beach, and be sure to watch about getting the sun in your photos at the beach. It can be cool, and it can be hard to avoid with a really wide angle lens. But it can also damage your camera sensor if the shutter, too. So make sure that you know what you are doing and that you have your camera settings correct. Just to be safe.
