France at Epcot

This view of France in Epcot’s World Showcase at Walt Disney World comes from a slightly different location. While we were walking around the Epcot Resorts, we walked over to the International Gateway, which is the entrance to Epcot into World Showcase for the guests of those resorts. The entrance is between France and the United Kingdom, so you can get a glimpse of France from there.

It appears as though this side of France was just a blank wall in the original days, because it wasn’t meant to be seen by anyone since it was hidden by trees. But when the International Gateway was added, this side suddenly became very visible, so they dressed it up with some fake windows and other architectural elements.

You can also see the Eiffel Tower from here. But wait, something isn’t right! If you look closely, you can see that all that is really there is the top portion of the tower sitting on top of a brick column. And I would guess that once again, that column looked pretty plain before bricks were added when the International Gateway came along. It does look better from inside World Showcase, however. But it isn’t quite a full model of the real thing.

Sorry to spoil that little secret for you. If it makes you feel any better, just imagine this post was all a bad dream and that it never really happened. See, aren’t you feeling better already?
