Football vs. Basketball

If you are a regular reader around here, you know that our son Jaylin has played football for the past three years. And if you follow me on social media (Twitter or Facebook), you know that he is playing basketball this year.

Football vs. Basketball

That raises the question, “Which one is better?” I’m glad you asked! But the answer is, “It depends.” Here are some reasons why each one is better:

Football: Each play is carefully thought out and executed, hopefully according to plan, instead of basketball where they just run back and forth quickly.

Basketball: A fast-break play is really exciting, especially when your kid is the one that scores the points.

Football: When the practice field isn’t lighted, the practices get shorter and shorter as you move into fall, unlike basketball where there really isn’t anything to make the coach quit unless someone else is waiting for the court.

Basketball: Practice is always inside, so you don’t have to worry about if you are going to be burning up in the sun, freezing in the wind, or staying dry during a rain.

Football: The schedule is pretty much constant, unless the coach wants to add or cancel a practice. Basketball seems to have lots of, “Oh, by the way, we are playing in a tournament next week.” Football players are tough and don’t need tournaments to prove it.

Basketball: The games are usually shorter. Although if you have to pay to get in, shorter isn’t necessarily better if you want to get your money’s worth out of it.

Football: The players wear pads for protection. Which is important when someone is smashing up against your kid.

Basketball: No pads makes for slightly easier packing and travel. And less to try to keep clean, too.

I’m sure there are more reasons, but those are just a few off the top of my head. So which one wins out? You make the call!
