Follow the Signs

The Signs Are Out There

Have you ever been wandering aimlessly, wondering what to do or which way to go? Or maybe you weren’t wandering aimlessly, but instead, you were just wandering, trying to see where you are supposed to go next. Suddenly, you see it - a sign! And the sign is showing you exactly which way you should go.

Sometimes the signs are difficult to see. Sometimes the signs are almost hidden. Or even sometimes you can’t find the sign at all, at least not where you think it should be. But when you do find the sign, it is a great feeling.

Life is like that sometimes. You find yourself not knowing what you should do next. It would be great if there were always obvious signs to tell us how we should live our lives. Sometimes there are, and sometimes there aren’t. Do your best to watch for those signs. Even better, do your best to follow those signs when you find them.

The Bible is full of signs for us to follow if we will only take the time to look for them. They are found throughout. They can be little, simple signs, and sometimes they can even be overlooked. Here is just one example, in case you are wondering what it is you should be doing:

He (Jesus) said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.” - Matthew 22:37-40.

You can’t find a much clearer sign of how God wants you to live your life and treat others than that, can you? I don’t think you can.

About the Photo

This photo comes from our visit to Big Hill Pond State Park in Tennessee back in the fall. We had a great time there wandering along on the trails and seeing all of the beautiful natural scenery that surrounded us.

However, sometimes the trail at Big Hill Pond was a little difficult to find. It appeared that the trails did not get that many hikers each day because some of the trails were almost overgrown. We at times had trouble figuring out just which way we were supposed to go next.

But then we would look a little harder, and we would eventually find one of the signs like you can see in the photo. That little hiker guy and all of his signs kept us on the right path, even when the path itself was hard to see. We were quite thankful for those signs. And we did our best to follow them. Just like in life.

The processing here is deceptively simple. Although the photo does not have quite as bold of a look as some of the other recent photos, this one still involves two exposures from the original Raw file, as well as some color overlays to give it a slightly different look.
