Fall Colors Arriving in Our Yard

The Beginnings of Fall Colors

Fall colors have started showing up in our yard. We do not usually get quite the grand colors that some other places get. And our colors do not usually last all that long, either. So we do our best to enjoy them while we can.

Here are some photos from around our yard. I took these last week, and the colors have already changed some since that time. Maybe I will do a Part 2 post sometime soon. But for now, here is what I have.

As you can see, there is still a good bit of green, partly due to the abundance of evergreen trees that we have. But the crape myrtle at the left has a few red leaves, and some of the other trees are starting to turn a little yellow.

The cherry trees have cherries! Some of the cherries are green, while others are starting to turn red. Are they safe to eat? I don’t know, we never have tried. But it is pretty fun to see them on the trees.

Look at all of those red leaves. They sure are red! And I should do some research, because I have no idea about what kind of tree that is. But the red leaves really do stand out.

I liked how the fall colors of the leaves of these sweetgum trees were backlit by the morning sun. And I like how the tops of the trees are red while the bottoms are still green. It is fun to see change in action.

The view down the driveway is mostly still green, except for the crape myrtle trees, whose few remaining leaves are red. The large sweetgum tree in the center of the photo should be changing soon. The pine tree to the right of it will stay green, of course. And the grass will turn yellow eventually, too.

This has nothing to do with fall color, but I liked the shadow of the photographer on the grass here. So I captured it so that you could see it, too.

Happy Fall!

I like that we live in a place where there is a change of seasons. I might not like one of those seasons all that much (looking at you, winter), but I do like that there is a change. And I also like that we don’t get too caught up in raking leaves at our house. It is fun to see the colorful leaves on the ground sometimes.

In addition to the change in colors, I also like the change in lifestyle that fall brings. Life is different due to different weather, earlier sunsets, different events, and probably more factors, too. We do different things than we do in the summer, and there is often a slightly slower pace that picks back up around the Christmas holidays. I appreciate the changes that fall brings much more now than I used to.

Fall is cool! Both literally and figuratively. And fall colors are nice to see.

About the Photos

As you can tell, I took these photos on a beautiful day with a clear blue sky. It was slightly cool but otherwise just about perfect. So often, I think of fall days as cold and cloudy, but there are some nice, sunny days, too.

I really did not have to do much to these photos in terms of processing. I did run all of them through Aurora HDR to make the colors a little brighter, but I did not do nearly as much to these as what I usually do.

These photos might have been good candidates for the 50with50 series, and I could have finished that out with just one post. But I decided to hold off on that and use the 28-70mm zoom lens instead. That lens has a wider angle to get some of the views that I wanted, and I could also zoom in on some things, such as the red leaves that were high up. But I was still able to open the aperture enough to get some bokeh (blurred background) effects, particularly with the cherries and the red leaves.
