Boardwalk at Wekiwa Springs
While we were at Wekiwa Springs State Park in Florida during our July trip, we found this inviting boardwalk through the trees. In fact, it looked as though the trees were about to take over the boardwalk. Just the kind of thing that we like to explore.
I particularly liked all the turns and the zig-zag nature of this boardwalk. So many similar boardwalks are lots of straight lines. This one, however, had very few straight lines. It had all sorts of turns in it, such as the sharp turn to the right in the center of the photo. That made it difficult to see what was very far ahead. To me, that just adds to the adventurous feel of the boardwalk. If you could see a long way down the trail, it would not be nearly as mysterious because you would know what was coming next. Of course, you could very well assume that trees were coming next on this trail, and you would be right. But you did not know which way the boardwalk would turn next, which was exciting.
Exciting in a nature trail kind of way, that is. That may not be exciting for everyone, but it is just fine for us. Who needs a thrill every minute, anyway?
Explorers on the Trail
Here we are enjoying that trail. Explorers out in the wild. Dodging rain drops and mosquitoes. Living the good life. Not caring whether we had any cell service. Only concerned about enjoying ourselves and not being consumed by the high humidity. That’s the life for me.
Actually, of course, the life for me is being at home with an ordinary job. But it is fun to get away from that from time to time and go out exploring in the wilderness. And besides, we aren’t just pretending. We really were out there in the wilderness. Never mind that civilization was really close by.

About the photo
I wanted to give these photos a slightly different look. Something that fit the explorer theme a little more than just a standard, straightforward photo. So I used the yellowed color scheme that you see here. Just for something a little different.
The processing also helped to hide the fact that our self portrait photo was slightly blurry, due to the limited light in the late afternoon with the thick trees. It is a little difficult to hold a camera steady with one hand, especially when you can’t even see what you are photographing anyway. Who knew? Problems of photography in the selfie age, I suppose.
