Evening at the Walt Disney World Wedding Pavilion

Blue Sky at Night

During our visit to the Central Florida area in June of 2018, we went on some evening walks around Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World. One of those walks took us past the Walt Disney World Wedding Pavilion, which is always an interesting place for us to visit.

It was starting to get dark out rather quickly, so we did not linger very long for photos, but I did get this one of the main wedding chapel building. I liked the yellow glow of the lights along the bridge and at the top of the left cupola here. They contrasted nicely with the blue tones of the sky just before it turned completely dark.

I also liked the nice touch of the lighted wedding rings on the arch over the gate to cross the bridge. I had noticed the rings before, but I did not know that they were lighted at night. Cool.

As you can see, the gate to cross the bridge was closed, so we did not try to go any farther than that. Besides, it was almost dark and we still had some walking to do. So we took a couple of photos, including this one, and then we went on our merry way.

I like nights like that.

Marriages That Last

Wouldn’t it be great if there were some magical formula to make marriages last? Whether it is getting married at a certain place, or following a certain custom at your wedding, or eating a certain food at your wedding? Or something else that everyone could do in these days of marriages that seemingly get shorter and shorter?

Here’s one thing you can do if you have not gotten married yet: Spend more time focusing on the marriage than on the wedding. People spend quite a bit of time planning out their weddings, but do they really plan out their marriages?

Make sure you know the person that you are planning to marry. Make sure that the person is the right person for you, and that you are right for the other person. People sometimes recoil at the suggestion of premarital counseling, “Are you saying that we really aren’t in love?” But there is much more to marriage than that first sensation of “love,” and counseling before the fact might save a lot of counseling after the fact.

And if you are already married, make sure you are putting lots of time and effort into your marriage. Focus more on your spouse than on yourself. Put the other person above yourself. That will make a big difference. If you are not already doing that, the change might not happen overnight, but you can do it.

There is nothing wrong with a fancy wedding at a place like the chapel above, or some fun or elaborate ceremony. But make sure you planning your marriage and not just your wedding.

About the Photo

As I mentioned above, this was just a quick photo as we were walking by. I did not have my tripod on the walk with me, so this was just a handheld photo.

It actually was not quite as dark out as this photo might make it look. With an aperture of f/2 and a setting of ISO-400, the shutter speed was a very manageable 1/80 second.

In processing I did bring out the lights and darken the rest of the photo slightly to get that nice yellow glow of the lights, and the nice blue tones of the evening, too.
