A look at my current drawing tools is photo number 49 in the 50with50 series, which means that the series is almost at an end.

You have probably noticed the abundance of Steve’s Sketchbook posts here in the last year. Or technically the last 11 months, since the first post was March 10, 2020. In past years, I had also posted a few art pieces as well. Or perhaps you have seen some of our Christmas cards that feature original art, too.

Even way back in my high school years, I loved to draw things. My drawings were more for humor or entertainment value than for serious art. But then for many years I moved away from drawing. Photography became more of my main hobby, as it still is.

But I like the opportunities that digital art provides. I can draw things and easily correct mistakes because I make a lot of those. I can add color in all kinds of ways, whether it is just plain color or simulating some sort of paintbrush and media. And then I can easily share that with others on social media since it is all digital in the first place.

As you can probably tell, the artwork on the iPad in the photo above is of Mobius the Goat, who appeared in the previous post. I think you might be seeing more of him soon!

Tools

Right now, the drawing tools I use are an iPad, the Procreate app, and an Apple Pencil. That is a change from those first Steve’s Sketchbook posts. I have learned and grown a good bit in the past year. There is still a lot about Procreate that I don’t know, but learning more is part of the fun of it, too. Also, the iPad is in a keyboard case that also folds up underneath the iPad when I don’t need to use the keyboard. Having that case makes the iPad almost like a small laptop when I need that, or just a drawing tablet when I want that. Plus, the keyboard case has a holder for the pencil, too.

Almost the End

As photo number 49 of the series of 50 photos taken with a 50mm lens, this one is almost the end of the 50with50 series. There have not actually been 50 posts, however. A few of the posts have had more than one photo. But there have been 49 photos, including this one.

I will say a bit more about the series in the final post, but it has been fun. It has been different from what I thought it would be (blame COVID), but still fun. And it isn’t like I am going to throw away that lens when the series ends, either. I will keep on using it, and I will keep tagging those posts with the Sony FE 50mm tag to make them easy to find, too.

About the Photo

I don’t know that I can say much more about this being taken with a 50mm lens, so I won’t. I did use some processing with Luminar AI to make the photo look a little more dramatic. For me, that was better than just posting the photo straight out of the camera. This version is a little more interesting than what the camera saw. The only downside is that the colors on Mobius are slightly different from the final artwork colors due to that processing, but I don’t mind that too much.

Also, I probably could have found a different setting for the iPad than the carpet, but I thought it was rather neutral and not too distracting. But I don’t actually lie on the floor to draw. That might work for kids, but it wouldn’t be all that comfortable for me.
