Downtown Memphis

Last year, we had the opportunity to spend a night in the Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. The Peabody is a historic hotel, and we were glad for the chance to stay there. The only downside was that it was a rainy night, and the next morning was gray and overcast.

But then it was also fortunate that the next morning was gray and overcast, because it could have been raining like the night before. I had wanted to go up on the roof to get some photos of the view from up there. I really wanted some night shots, but I didn’t feel like braving the cold rain to get those. Because unlike the Peabody Ducks that live in a penthouse on the roof, water doesn’t run right off of my back. So I settled for cloudy day shots the next morning before we left.

This view was taken facing west, showing some of the buildings of the downtown area. Beyond that is the Mississippi River, which actually looks more gray like the sky than muddy as it normally looks.

And while a blue sky would have been nice, I rather like the way the clouds look here. Clouds are cool. Even on a cold day.
