Disney Dream at Nassau
Disney Dream in the Afternoon Sun
The golden afternoon sun shines on the Disney Dream, one of the cruise ships of the Disney Cruise Line, as it is docked at the Port of Nassau, Bahamas, during our 2018 Christmas Disney Cruise.
On our day at Nassau, we had enjoyed walking through the city in the morning, seeing some of the sights. In the afternoon, the girls had gone to a craft thing. Brant and the kids were playing basketball. So I decided to walk around the Disney Dream for a bit.
I like finding interesting views of the ship, and so I walked up to the adults-only Quiet Cove area of the ship. From there, I had a good view looking back down the length of the ship, as you can see here. You can also see a little bit of Nassau way off in the distance, as well as slight glimpses of the ships docked on either side of the Disney Dream.
The clouds were nice that day. Not threatening at all, but just there to add some breaks in the brilliant blue of the sky. It was all just about perfect.
After my walk, I went and found Brant and the kids, and then we met back up with Laura and Karen once they were finished with their craft, so that we could enjoy more of our near-perfect day. It was a great time.

Another Version
What you see above was actually my second attempt at processing this photo. The first version just wasn’t working for me. But you might like it, or at least you might like to see it, so here it is:
I figured that since I had finished it, I might as well go ahead and share it.
The photo really isn’t bad in any way. I can’t say exactly what I don’t like about it. It just wasn’t the look that I was going for.
The newer version at the first of this post has more emphasis on the golden sunlight tones, which this second version does not have. The newer version also has a little less contrast, and the clouds look a little more natural. As you may know from some of the other photos I post, I don’t mind an “unnatural” look sometimes, but it was not what I wanted for this photo.
Also, if you notice in the second version, the horizon actually slopes up at the right of the photo. Mr. Can’t Hold the Camera Level strikes again. I noticed that and corrected it in the later version, too.
So there you have it. I just thought you might like to see the thought process that I go through when I process a photo, and how what I start with is not always what I end up with.

About the Photo
Much of what I would usually add here is in the paragraphs up above, in case there is anyone who just looks at the photo and skips down to this part. I doubt there is, but I thought I would mention that, just in case.
Both versions of the photo were processed using the original Raw file in Aurora HDR, tweaking the different settings and trying out some of the included presets as I usually do. Although I sometimes start with a preset, I always end up changing the settings to suit the particular photo that I work on. For me, presets are a starting guide and not the full path to the final product. Just my opinion there.
