Decorating the Christmas Tree (a video)

The Christmas season has arrived, which means it is time to decorate the Christmas tree! Here is how we do it in our house:

As you can see, we use an artificial tree. That way, if we leave it up for a couple of weeks after Christmas Day, we don’t have to worry about it dropping pine needles all over the place. This way, we just have to worry about it dropping artificial pine needles when we are putting it up or taking it down. But now that we don’t have a cat to eat all of those artificial needles, that isn’t as much of a problem. What happens when a cat eats artificial Christmas tree needles? You don’t want to know.

Also, you can probably tell that we started working on this at night (the day after Thanksgiving, actually), and then we finished it the next day (Saturday, when lots of football was on TV, as you might notice). Several hours of work were condensed into just under a minute here. Because I’m sure you wouldn’t want to sit and watch us put up the whole tree in real time. I know I wouldn’t.

And although we are moving rather quickly here, you may also notice that it was a family affair. All three of us were working on it at times. Because what fun would it be if one of us had to do the whole thing? Where’s the Christmas spirit in that?

You may also notice that we like lights on our tree. A lot of lights. Lots and lots of lights. And actually we realized that we didn’t put quite as many lights on the tree this year as we have in the past. Oops. Anyway, having lots of lights on the tree has gotten a bit easier with the advent of LED Christmas lights. We don’t have as much of a spike in our electric bill around the holidays now, and we don’t have many bulbs go out, either. A double win!

So now we have one tree up, and a few others to go. There will be “official” photos soon, but here is a quick one that I shared the other day:

Merry Christmas!

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6

About the video: This video is a time lapse video, created with the GoPro camera taking one still photo every 10 seconds. I actually ended up with three different segments, due to starting and stopping the camera, and I edited those together in GoPro Studio, using a frame rate of 15 frames per second. It makes us look a little frantic as we were moving all about, but that was just what I was going for. Filmed and photographed with a GoPro camera and then edited in GoPro Studio Camera: GoPro Hero3+ Silver
