Daily Photo: Christmas and Snow

A few years ago, we got a relatively small lighted tree and presents to put in our front yard. Because the street is so far away, you really can’t see it when you drive by. But we can see it when we are at home, and we like having it.

Yesterday morning when we got up, we had over an inch of snow on the ground. I looked out the window and saw the small tree and presents sitting in the snow, and I thought they would make a good picture. So I grabbed the camera and tripod and quickly went out, but only on the front porch. I didn’t want to be out in the snow, after all.

And I am really glad that I did, because I thought the picture turned out just right.

About the Photo

As I mentioned above, this was shot from the front porch. If the snow still hadn’t been falling, I probably would have gotten closer and used the wide-angle lens. But the zoom lens worked fine here. Three exposures (-2, 0, +2), merged and tonemapped in Photomatix, with some final editing done in GIMP.
