Daily Photo: Carthay Circle Theater

While Disney California Adventure gets a new Carthay Circle Theater as its new centerpiece, Disney’s Hollywood Studio has already had a Carthay Circle for several years. It was added with the opening of Sunset Boulevard in 1994. This Carthay Circle Theater actually houses a gift shop called Once Upon a Time, as the theater marquee shows.

The real Carthay Circle Theater existed in Hollywood during the “golden days” of the movie business. For Disney, it is notable as being the location for the premiere of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. The Carthay Circle also had one of the installations of Fantasound for Fantasia in 1941.

About the shot:
This was a quick shot as we were making our way to Rock N Roller Coaster, and I liked the way that the sun was coming in. I also wanted to get the palm trees in the shot, which I think worked well. Three exposures (-2, 0, +2) tonemapped in Photomatix, and edited with some Nik filters in PaintShop Pro.
