Cozy Cone Motel and Phone Calls

The Cozy Cone Motel at Disney’s Art of Animation resort is straight out of the Disney/Pixar movie “Cars.” Actually, the building here is not a part of the guest rooms. Instead, it houses the restrooms for the nearby Cozy Cone Pool, as well as a guest laundry. But besides that, it looks like it could really be the hotel office. Even the “grassy” area where the sign stands is artificial turf, which seems fitting for such a motel.

The whole Cars section of Art of Animation was really well done. It was just as if you had walked into the movie. Almost.

Phone Calls

We almost never get phone calls at home that are actually for us. And when we are at home we know that that the calls aren’t for us when they come in, thanks to that handy invention known as Caller ID. It makes you wonder why Alexander Graham Bell himself didn’t just go ahead and invent Caller ID when he invented the telephone. I’m sure he got at least a few wrong numbers and sales calls himself. Or he just got tired of answering when Watson would call him to ask if it was time to go home yet.

Lately, we have been getting lots of wrong number calls, not just unwanted sales calls. Most of those unwanted calls are actually from the same person, who is trying to call one of her relatives. One of these days, I should probably answer to tell her that she has the wrong number, although I haven’t done that yet.

But my favorite recent call was one that came when we were home. I didn’t know the name or number on the Caller ID, so I didn’t answer, letting the answering machine do its thing. In the background, you could hear some loud music. Which meant that either the music wasn’t very far in the background, or the music was really, really loud. And there was also a child crying. Probably because the music was so loud. And the message went something like, “Hey Fluffy - call Pookie.” That probably wasn’t actually what was said, but I couldn’t make it out completely because of the loud music and the crying child. Hopefully, if she had called the person she meant to call, they would have known who she was and what she was saying. Because I sure didn’t.

And that leads me to wonder - do people even listen to what the answering machine says before they leave their message? Probably not, I’m guessing. Because that would make too much sense.
