Contemporary Resort Down the Way

The Contemporary Resort hotel at Walt Disney World in Florida is seen at the end of a seemingly long boat dock that juts out into Bay Lake. Actually, the fisheye lens distortion here may make this dock seem longer than it actually is. But it is still a pretty cool view.

The symmetry of this view from the old days has been thrown off just slightly with the addition of the Bay Lake Tower off to the right. From this angle, the hotel almost needs something else on the left to balance things out. But if they don’t go building another tower anytime soon, that is just fine. Why mess with a good thing? Again, that is.

I also really like the clouds and the blue sky here. The sun was pretty intense at that time, which was unusual for that trip because we got lots of rain. But the clouds here helped to filter the sunlight for this photo, which was cool.

Metal Mickey Mouse

When we are at the Contemporary Resort, we often like to stop by to see the metal Mickey Mouse. He is right off the path to the main building from the boat dock, which is why we stopped by on this trip to see him.

It is a little odd to see Mickey sitting on a representation of Mickey’s head. Is that anything like Inception? Probably not. But it is still cool to see. And you can halfway see in the above photo that even the paving bricks get into the Mickey Mouse shape act.

I thought we were doing well with the handheld selfie photo above, as we had done several similar photos during that trip. But then Laura said, “Let’s do one with each of us in Mickey’s ears! I know you can figure out how to do it.”

Challenge accepted! And as you can see, challenge accomplished. Fortunately, it was pretty easy.

First off, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 has wifi remote capability, and you can control it with your phone. And second, there is a little stand out in front of Metal Mickey that is just perfect for putting your camera on. That was handy because I had not brought my tripod with me. Apparently, we are not the first to use either a camera remote or self-timer for photos such as this.

I thought it turned out well, and it was nice to have a photo of the two of us from our trip that wasn’t taken at arm’s length, too. Cool.

Interesting Thought

About the photo

Once again, I was looking to make these photos look a bit more unique. I probably won’t stick with this one particular style all that much, but it is fun to do things differently from time to time. Best of all, I can always go back and make the same photos look different at a later time if I choose.
