Clouds Over the Boardwalk at Walt Disney World

On our trip to Walt Disney World, this past summer, we encountered a good bit of rain. Sure, it rains in Florida most every day. But on this trip it seemed to rain even more than usual.

One afternoon, we had decided to visit the Epcot Resorts at Walt Disney World for our usual walking tour. We started out at the Swan resort and then made our way over to the Boardwalk. And as you might guess, we quickly realized that we might have to make other plans, based on the cloud cover. Sure enough, it started to rain big buckets of rain right after this. So we eventually changed our plans to something else, since the handy radar on my phone showed that the rain was going to be with us for a while.

So even though I wasn’t necessarily a fan of the rain that day, I did like the atmosphere that it gave to this photo. Those clouds do look pretty threatening, don’t they? As if they are taunting us by saying, “I’m laughing at all of you without umbrellas and ponchos, because you are going to wish you had one soon!”

I did bring out the clouds just a bit by using a second exposure, to make them even more threatening. And I muted the colors somewhat, too, which is different from my usual approach of increasing the color saturation. But it worked well, here. I think it gives the photo an antique look of sorts. Of course, it would look even more antique if I had gone in and Photoshopped period outfits on all of the people to replace their tourist clothes, but I didn’t go to that much trouble for it.

So enjoy the clouds! And be thankful for umbrellas.
