Clouds and Waves
Back during the summer when we visited Cocoa Beach, Florida, as part of our 2017 Disney Cruise trip, we encountered just a few clouds during our morning at the beach. Okay, so there were more than a few clouds. But it was not quite as apocalyptic as the photos might make it seem.
But you can see that the clouds did not stop Laura from venturing out into the water with her board. There were not many other people out at that time. You might blame the crowds, but you could also blame the early hour at which we arrived. Later on in the day, more people arrived, as did the sun. So while the water was a little bit cool and the wind made it feel even cooler, it was definitely worth it to put up with some clouds in order to have fewer people there. And the photos turned out pretty well, too.
Deja Vu?
This photo was taken at the same time as a previously posted photo. But felt that there were enough differences between the two to warrant sharing this one as well. The two photos have different looks and different coloring. While the previous photo focuses more on the reflection of the sun on the water, this one shows the white caps of the waves quite well. And also, this one has Laura while the previous one did not.
Personally, I do not think there is anything wrong with sharing similar photos. After all, each photo captures just a single moment in time, and no two moments in time are quite the same. If those photos happen to have a few differences in composition or processing, that makes it even better.
After all, some people post multiple selfies every day. And I know they can’t change that much from one day to the next, right?

About the photo
For me, the clouds were actually a great help for this photo, helping to block the sun. In the early morning hours at Cocoa Beach, which faces the east, the sun is shining right at you, making it difficult to get a good photo unless there are some clouds to filter the sun.
I used three different “exposures” from the same Raw file to produce this image. I started with the base photo, masked in another exposure to bring out the cloud detail, and used yet a third exposure to make the white caps nice and white. Yes, it took a little extra work, but it was worth it.
