Clouds Above Deck on the Disney Dream

When we are on a Disney Cruise, I enjoy spending some time on the day at sea taking some general photos of the ship. This view was one of those photos. No real definite subject here, besides just trying to capture the atmosphere of being on the ship. The clouds above, the water off to the side, the deck chairs, the AquaDuck overhead, the iconic funnel off in the distance. That’s what I like to remember about being on the ship, and I think this photo captures it well.

Interestingly, there aren’t that many people in this view. It was relatively early in the morning, and not everyone was out yet, which is a good time to be out on the deck. If you zoom in, you can see several people here and there, but it was nice to have some time where there weren’t a whole lot of people within an arm’s reach. Actually, except for events such as the sailing away party or the Pirate Night fireworks, the ship never feels too crowded to me. There are enough things scattered all over the ship that all of the people spread out pretty well, except for those events where everyone is all right there together. So if you were wondering what it is like to be on a ship with a lot of other people, it really isn’t bad at all.

And if you are wondering, those clouds never brought any rain that day, unlike in the previous days, thanks to Captain Henry steering the ship away from the rain all day. Sometimes, I like to zoom in and look at some little details in my photos, so here is a detail from this one:

For whatever reason, I like the way the glass tube and the water inside it was catching the sunlight filtered through the clouds. And in the lower portion of the photo, I also like all of the different turns and runs of the AquaDuck path as it goes this way and that. Also, this portion of the photo by itself looks completely different than the overall photo that it is a part of, which to me is really cool. It is always interesting how things sometimes look different when you look at them by themselves. It pays to take a little time to look at things more closely sometimes.

About the photo:

I went with some really bold colors here, both in the blue of the sky in between the clouds and the orangish yellow of the deck, as well as the red funnel in the background. I’m a bold color kind of guy after all.

For the detail photo, all I did was crop the original photo. Thanks to some digital noise reduction from one of the Nik filters, you really can’t tell that it is a heavily cropped photo. Isn’t modern technology wonderful?
