Christmas on the Front Porch for 2019
O Christmas Tree!
Each year we have a Christmas Tree on our front porch as part of our Christmas decorations, along with lights on the columns and hanging from the roof. We also have some other lights and things out in the yard, but those aren’t in the photo here.
I usually try to go out at night each year and get a few photos of our outside decorations, just for posterity, I guess. Or just because I like to take photos. But I haven’t had that chance yet this year. So I decided to get some early morning photos instead.
It was getting light out, but it was still somewhat dark, actually a little darker than this photo makes it look. But you can still see all the lights, so it is all good. Plus, this gives a little bit of a different look from what I posted last year.
Also, I stayed under the porch roof for the photos I took this time around, because it was actually snowing when I took this. You can’t see it in the photo because the flakes were pretty small. But for a little while they accumulated enough to be seen on grass and vehicles. But not on the roads, thankfully.
Hello, Mickey!
Trash Heap Mickey is still there and going strong, in case you are wondering. If you didn’t take the time to click on the link above from last year, Trash Heap Mickey got his name because a friend rescued him from a trash pile. I rewired him, and he has been going strong ever since. And he does not look quite as creepy in person as photos make him look.
Wagon Wheel of Wonder
The Wagon Wheel of Wonder is back again this year, too. You can’t tell that it twinkles in this still photo, but it does. I like that it adds some movement to the porch.
Also, those red lights that you see on the wall are laser beams, and they also move all around, even though you can’t see it here. Plus, we have some Mickey silhouette lights that go back and forth across the house, too. Because still lights are so 20th Century, I guess.

And to finish, here is a close-up look at the lights on the Front Porch Christmas Tree. Nothing special here, just some lights. And a bow or two. But I like it. Lights are pretty cool!

About the Photos
As I mentioned above, these photos were taken in the daylight instead of at night. But there was not that much daylight, partly because of the time of day and partly because of the clouds and snow flurries. So I used the 50mm prime lens with the aperture open wide. Mostly. I went with a different aperture setting for the main tree photo, just because I wanted the columns to be in focus, too. That meant increasing the ISO setting, but that was fine.
That increased ISO setting introduced some slight noise into that first photo. But I like that look sometimes, so I did not attempt to “clean it up” any. It is fine with me.
And no matter how much you squint, that wagon wheel photo won’t look in focus. If it does look in focus, you might need to visit your friendly optometrist. Sorry about that.
