Superheroes enjoy Christmas, too, as you can see from the Captain America snowman.

This Cap Snowman is actually a Funko Pop figure, photographed in front of our Christmas Tree, in case you were wondering. No, I was not clever enough to be able to create this myself. I wish I were.

This figure was in a basket I got in a silent auction at our church’s Breakfast with Santa that benefited the children’s homes that we support. I thought it was a pretty cool find since I had not seen that before. I had to raise my bid a few times to get it, but it was worth it since the money was going to a good cause.

And speaking of Breakfast with Santa, here are a couple of fun photos from that day.

For part of the morning, Laura worked in the Reindeer Roundup game. The kids were supposed to throw small inflatable rings and get them on the reindeer antlers. Always a fun time, and actually a bit harder than it might look. And no, if you wear the reindeer antlers you don’t feel ridiculous at all.

These cutouts were in a photo booth area off to the side of the room, and they were not getting much use. So Laura and I decided to have our photo made there. Never mind our arms and legs sticking out from behind Santa and the elf. I still thought they were neat.

We might not have been able to draw all that much business to the photo booth, but we did drag some business to it. We grabbed Karen and Kaitlyn to come with us, and they grabbed some of the props from the nearby table. Except that the Christmas Mickey ears were Laura’s that she brought from home. Because sometimes it is good to bring your own props.

Breakfast with Santa was a good time. A good bit of money was raised for the children’s homes. And some of the children from one of the homes were even able to attend and join in on some of the fun. We did not get our photo taken with Santa this year, but lots of people did, which was good.

About the Photos

This is probably backwards from what you might think if you have read some of the “About the Photo” sections here. But the top photo actually used the zoom lens while the photos from the event used the 50mm prime lens. What? Seriously.

I started out with the prime lens for the Cap Snowman photo, but I couldn’t get close enough to the snowman to only have the tree in the background. So I switched to the zoom lens to be able to zoom in more, and I opened up the aperture on it as wide as it would go. It still produced the desired bokeh effect. To keep from setting the ISO high, I used a tripod so that I wouldn’t have to try to hold the camera steady.

I took photos of the event with the prime lens so that with the aperture open I could get a fast shutter speed without a high ISO there, too.

Don’t just use one lens for one purpose. They can all be used multiple ways!
