Buzz Lightyear at Disney's Hollywood Studios
To Infinity…
Buzz Lightyear stands tall near the Alien Swirling Saucers in Toy Story Land, part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
The 2019 Band and Chorus Disney Trip was my first time to visit Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Many people online had been going on and on about it, so I was interested to see it for myself. Overall, it was a nice new addition. But it wasn’t anything like “mindblowingly the best thing ever.” In case you were wondering.
My group did ride Alien Swirling Saucers, and it was a fun diversion of slinging you back and forth. Some were concerned that it would be a “lose your lunch” ride like the Teacups in the Magic Kingdom. But it really was not very dizziness-inducing at all, thanks to the fact that it does not actually spin you in complete circles. That was good news for me, because I like to hold on to my lunch. Or whichever meal I have most recently eaten.
We did not ride Slinky Dog Dash because of the long lines and lack of FastPass availability. But we did ride Toy Story Mania, thanks to the third track that they built and the fact that everyone wants to ride Slinky Dog more these days. But after that and the Saucers, the land was getting crowded, and we were needing a meal, so we wandered off to somewhere else.
One thing they did get right about Toy Story Land was the look of the characters. The walkaround costumed characters of Buzz and Woody have never quite looked right to me. Part of that has to do with having to fit a person in the costume. But another part of it is their facial expressions just never have been right. At least these large versions of the characters, such as Buzz pictured here, look just like the movie versions. And I like that Buzz’s box is in the background, too. That’s a nice touch.
…And Beyond
Of course, it will be interesting to see what happens to the crowds in Toy Story Land when the new Star Wars Land opens later this year. And when I say “interesting to see,” I mean seeing it from online reports and such. Because I don’t plan to be anywhere in the area for quite a while.
In case you did not know, Star Wars fans are quite a passionate bunch. And there are a bunch of them, too. I can easily imagine Disney’s Hollywood Studios having to close due to reaching capacity for a good, long time. And the same goes for Disneyland in California and their version of Star Wars Land, too. That is good for business. But that is not good for us individuals who might not want to fight crowds.
So you probably won’t be seeing me in Star Wars Land any time soon. Except maybe as a Force Ghost who isn’t really there.
That’s okay. I can wait.
Bible Verse
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. - Ephesians 4:1-3
About the Photo
There really is not all that much special about this photo. I took it as we were waiting in line for the Alien Swirling Saucers. No fancy setup or anything. Processing was done in Luminar to bring out the color saturation and shadow detail quite a bit, giving a brave, bold look that very much fits Buzz Lightyear, in my mind.
Photo: A single Raw exposure, processed in Luminar. Read more about photography tips, photo software, camera gear, and more at Steve’s Photography Tips.
