Beach Umbrellas at Castaway Cay

Umbrellas on the Beach

Beach Umbrellas on Castaway Cay

Umbrellas fill the Family Beach on Castaway Cay, the Disney Cruise Line’s Bahamas Island, as seen on our 2018 Christmas Disney Cruise.

On our most recent Disney Cruise, we spent quite a bit of time on the beach during our day at Castaway Cay. Although some of us did make a short trip to the Serenity Bay beach, the Family Beach was where we spent most of our time, because all of us adults and kids could be together there.

One of the reasons we spent a lot of time there was because it was just such a nice day, as you can see in the photo. Just a few clouds here and there, and lots and lots of blue sky and sunshine. Not too much heat, although the shade of the umbrellas was nice, especially for those fair-skinned people in our group.

Beach People

As you can also see, there were not that many people right around us, either. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy the beach, which made it even more pleasant. I wonder if some people thought the water would be too cold, so perhaps they had stayed on the ship instead of coming to the beach. The water was a little cold, but you could still get in without too much suffering if you wanted to. So those people missed out on a nice day.

The Burnses in our group are definitely beach people. We love to spend any time at all that we can on the beach. If we can get in the water, that is fine. But if we need to just stay on dry land and enjoy the view, that is fine, too. There is just something about the beach that draws us in. The Riedels were happy to stay out there with us, too. We had lots of fun sitting, talking, doing little things here and there, and mainly just taking life easy.

If you can’t be a beach bum all of the time (and I can’t), then at least it is nice to have a lazy, relaxing day on the beach when you can. And Castaway Cay is one of those near-perfect places to have a fun beach day.

Bible Verse

Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. - Proverbs 10:4-5

About the Photo

Lately, several of my photos have started looking the same to me. That is not always a bad thing, but sometimes I like to change things up just a little bit. Also, that sometimes helps a photo to stand out from the others, such as this slightly similar photo that I took way back in 2013.

After checking out several options and Photoshop actions, I found one that gives the photo a bit of a retro look. It reminds me of an old postcard. Remember back when people would send postcards to people back home when they were on vacation? That has largely been replaced by text messages and social media these days. But some of us still remember how postcard photos often had a rather unique look to them.

This one has lighter tones, brighter colors, and just a slight tint of red to it. All it needs is some wording of “Wish you were here” across the top of it. I briefly thought about adding that, but I decided that overall the photo would be better without it. So you will just have to imagine that part of it if you want to.
