Back Home Again / Vacation Thoughts

Back Home Again

Maybe you noticed a lack of blog posts last week, or not as many social media updates. Or maybe you didn’t notice. Either way, the Burnsland Traveling Circus is back home after our Florida/Disney trip.

We had a great time and did lots of fun things. Expect to see pictures from Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Downtown Disney Marketplace and West Side, and the following Disney hotels: Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Boardwalk, and Yacht Club (not that we stayed at any of those). And a special appearance by the University of Florida.

I took around 1700 pictures. But considering that many of those are brackets for 3-exposure HDR shots, I really only have around 600 unique shots. Which is a lot less than what I used to take, actually.

The Back Home Again title here also serves a dual purpose, besides being a John Denver song reference. Yes, we are now back home. But while we were in Florida, we were back home to what has become our “Florida home,” the High Point World Resort. This has been our home away from home for the past seven years. It is familiar and comfortable, and just the right size for us. The door to our unit is upstairs in the center of this picture.

This particular view was from our last night there. We always look forward to staying there, and we are always a little sad to leave. Nice place!

Vacation Thoughts

Here are some thoughts I jotted down while on vacation to remind me of things for later on. Some of them are actually ideas for future blog posts, so consider this a preview. And then some of them are just random thoughts, too.

I saw a car from Alaska. In Florida. (And I thought we had a long drive.)

Continental breakfast doesn’t mean it is as big as a continent. (Not that I need to eat a whole continent, of course.)

You never know who you will see at church. (Nothing like seeing people we know. 800+ miles from home.)

I’m in the English speaking minority here. (Maybe I should start learning a second language.)

Heard on the train at the Magic Kingdom: Deer! And they are real, too. (Some things are just better when they are real, evidently.)

Karaoke singers at the pool. Um, yeah. (Mostly teenagers, so we heard our share of Katy Perry and Justin Bieber songs. And then one kid sang the Pina Colada song. Really.)

Pool bathing load maximum: 25 (But what if we are just swimming?)

A strong Scottish accent is almost like another language. (I was thinking more of learning Spanish, but Scottish sounds pretty cool.)

Empty threats by parents overheard during our trip: 2037 (“Don’t hit your brother again, or you will be really sorry!” “I mean it this time!”)
