Animal Kingdom Lodge Lobby at Walt Disney World

Just a Few Colors

The colorful light fixtures stand out in an otherwise monochrome view of the lobby of the Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World, as seen during our July 2022 Florida Trip.

Yes, the lobby of the Animal Kingdom Lodge is normally a more colorful place than this, with lots of earth tones all around. But after the recent Plaza del Sol photo, I thought it would be fun to try a similar treatment on another photo. I looked through the photos from our Florida trip, and this one immediately caught my eye.

Of course, we were not staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We just stopped in for a visit to walk around inside, and then to go outside and see the animals. And take a few photos here and there, too. For whatever reason, this was our first visit to Animal Kingdom Lodge in several years. Not sure how we had not gotten by there in a while. We always like to see the animals, after all.

Getting Your Attention

Converting a photo to black and white gives it a completely different look. And then leaving a few items with their normal colors gives the photo an even more interesting look, in my opinion. I would guess that your eyes were immediately drawn to the light fixtures hanging from the ceiling and then to the smaller lamps down below. You might not even pay much attention at all to the rest of the photo.

Many things are trying to get your attention. Some of them might not be worthwhile. But sometimes the not-worthwhile things try harder to get your attention than the good things.

Make sure you give your attention to the right things and not just the eye-catching things. And make sure you know the difference in the first place. That sounds tricky, but it can be done. If nothing else, just ask someone for advice.

Life is much better - and easier - when you give your attention to the right things.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. - 1 John 2:15-17

About the Photo

As with the previous Plaza del Sol photo, this photo involved a combination of color and black and white versions. And the black and white version is a bit darker than what I would use if I were not adding in color. But the darker background helps the color to jump out at you more, in my opinion.

On my first pass, I did not include the yellow lamps in the seating area. But when I looked back at the color version of the photo, those lamps seemed to be almost as prominent as the ceiling fixtures, so I included color for them, too. To me, after you see the ceiling fixtures, the yellow lamps help to draw your eyes down through the rest of the photo and not just focus on the top third.
