Anahola Pier Remains in Hawaiʻi
Something Used to Be There
The remains of an old pier lead out into the water at Anahola Beach Park on the island of Kauaʻi in Hawaiʻi, as seen during our 2018 Kauaʻi trip.
Yes, I have posted a photo of these support bases before. But this one is from a different angle, and it has a completely different look than that previous photo, so I thought it was worth sharing here because it is such a nice view. While in some ways I prefer the symmetrical view of the previous photo, there are many things that I like about this view as well.
But even more than the old pier supports, what I really enjoy about this photo is the water. It is nice and blue, in several different shades of blue, with white caps on the waves, as it was all over Hawaiʻi. The sand looks really nice, too. I can just imagine walking out there with my feet sinking slightly in the sand and feeling it come up between my toes. The whole scene looks warm and inviting, as if I needed an invitation to go back to Hawaiʻi. We will be back some day, one of these days, when things are hopefully somewhat back to normal.
Blessings
One thing I have been trying to do during this time of uncertainty is to focus on blessings. Even with some difficulties we face, my family has been quite blessed, and it is important to remember that during these times that might perhaps be difficult.
I could take some time and list all of the ways we have been blessed here. But that might make someone feel sad because they were not blessed in the same way. Or it might come across as bragging, as if I am saying, “Look what all I have!” Or you might list your blessings, which might cause me to feel the same way toward you.
So the point here is not to make a list of blessings to share publicly. However, it might help you to list out for your own use the ways that you have been blessed. And then when you feel a little down, you can go back to that list and see just how much you do have. Sometimes we need that reminder of just how good we have it. This is not to compare yourself to others, but rather just to be a reminder of what you have been blessed with.
We sing a song at our church called, “Count Your Blessings.” The meaning of the song is that when things seem bad for you, count your blessings. Once you start counting those blessings, you will see how much God has done for you. And you may not be able to count them all.
That is the perfect thing to do right now. Start counting, and see if you can come to a stopping point on the list. I keep coming up with more, and I imagine you will, too.
Bible Verse
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. - Psalm 103:2-5
About the Photo
While this photo was taken just a few moments after the earlier photo, they have very different looks to them. That is due to the different processing styles used. The earlier photo was processed in Photoshop, while this later one used Aurora HDR.
And they were also processed with a different mindset. My frame of mind now is much different from how it was at that time. These days, I think more about peace and comfort, while at that time I might have thought more about action and adventure. Sometimes your stage in life or state of mind can influence the look that you give to a photo. I actually had not really considered that before, but it very much makes sense now.
Photo: A single Raw exposure, processed in Aurora HDR. Read more about photography tips, photo software, camera gear, and more at Steve’s Photography Tips.
