Rockets and Clouds

During the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, and even before that, the United States was proud of its rocket programs. And rightfully so. Yes, there were some failures, but those were far more successes in the program. Because the United States government was funding NASA, it is not surprising at all to see our country’s name on the rockets. There was no doubt as to who was behind each rocket launch. It said so right there on the rocket.
While the United States has had many successes throughout its history, NASA is definitely one of the biggest.
And by “biggest,” I don’t just mean the impressive size of those rockets, either. But they are amazingly big, especially when compared to the size of the capsules that actually held the humans on top of those rockets. That just shows how much fuel and machinery were required to send people into space.
Happy Independence Day!
This photo is being shared here on July 4. Yes, no matter where you go in the world today, the date is still the same. However, that date has a special significance here in the United States, as it is our Independence Day.
There are celebrations all over with music, and food, and yes, even rockets. The rockets may not be quite the same size as those in the photo above, however. And of course, we call them fireworks.
Many years ago, Laura and I were in Jamaica on July 4. Of course, that is not a holiday for them there. However, some of the hotels on the island still had fireworks that night. I would guess that is because of the number of American tourists who go there each year. That is nice of them, I guess.
One year ago, Laura and I started on our 2018 Kauaʻi trip. We got to Kauaʻi early in the afternoon of the 4th. But because of our early morning to catch our first flight, and because of the 6 hour time difference, we ended up not seeing any fireworks that night. But it was still a great trip.
Sometimes, our neighbors shoot some fireworks on July 4. I don’t know if they will continue that tradition tonight, but we will be enjoying it if they do.

About the Photo
For this photo, I wanted a bold look in the clouds. In fact, I purposefully chose this photo over a similar photo I had taken earlier in the day. The earlier photo had a blue sky. But I liked the clouds in this version better.
To bring out the clouds in processing, I used Aurora HDR, knowing it would give the bold contrast look that I wanted. It did not disappoint.
