All Aboard at Frontierland Station

All Aboard at Frontierland Station in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World

Crowds make their way up the stairs to the Walt Disney World Railroad’s Frontierland Station, while other crowds make their way underneath the station as they go to and from Splash Mountain.

Actually, at the time this photo was taken, it looks like there was a larger crowd than usual going up the steps to the station. Maybe it was just a big family group going up all at once. Or maybe the railroad was really popular that day. On the flip side, there doesn’t seem to be all that many people going to or from Splash Mountain. Usually, the Railroad crowds and the Splash Mountain crowds are reversed. Of course, it is difficult to tell from just one snapshot in time.

The rustic color scheme and weathered look of Frontierland Station always appeal to me, even though it goes against some of the older ways of having everything in Disney parks looking fresh and new. But this station looks like it has been there for much longer than twenty years, and that adds to its character.

And if it weren’t for the characters of Brer Bear and Brer Rabbit standing in front of the station (off to the left here, barely visible above some of the people in this view), you might think that this old train station really could be found somewhere in the Old West. Which would be cool.
