Adventureland Rooftops at Night
The rooftops of Adventureland in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom glow at night, thanks to the surrounding lighting.
As we were passing the evening time during our visit to the Magic Kingdom last summer, we stopped to get a Dole Whip during the first nighttime parade, since we were in Adventureland and the parade somewhat limits how much you can move around in the park. As they say, when life gives you pineapples, have a Dole Whip. Or something like that.
We were sitting near Aladdin’s Magic Carpets while we were enjoying our cool treats, and I was looking up at the Adventureland rooftops, which I always enjoy seeing. So of course, I steadied the camera slightly and got a photo. You can even see a star or two in the sky. Not too bad for not bringing a tripod with me.
I do miss the flames from the torches that those tiki-like guys are holding along the roofline. Maybe they will “carry the torch” once again, but I somehow doubt it. Much easier and less costly if they don’t, and only those old-timers of us will know that they used to burn. Not necessarily the best show, but that’s the way they do things these days, it seems.
As you may know, the place on the right under the non-burning torch guys used to be the Sunshine Tree Terrace but is now Aloha Isle. Confused as to what to call the place? So am I, so I had to look it up to make certain. One of my favorite photos was from when it was the Sunshine Tree Terrace. Of course, much of it is still the same now, except for the name and the menu. So maybe that isn’t much of it after all.

About the Photo
As I mentioned, this was a slightly long exposure without a tripod. To compensate for that, I set the ISO at 1000 and opened the aperture up to f/1.8. That gave a shutter speed of 1/3 second, which worked pretty well. A longer exposure with a tripod might have been a little better, but being able to spend all day at the park without having to worry about carrying a tripod or leaving in a locker was nice, too.
