Adoption Day

June 27 is a special day around our house. On June 27, 2005, Jaylin became an official part of the Burns family. Of course, it was all just a formality by that point. Jaylin had already been living with us for over two years as a foster child, and he really was already a part of our family. So Adoption Day was just us going before the judge to make it official.

Things have changed around our house from the time before Jaylin came. But all of it has been good. For example, before he was around, we never would have thought about stopping off in Gainesville to visit the University of Florida. But he has always enjoyed football, and now we watch it all the time, during football season of course. So here he is at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, also known as The Swamp.

Observations of the Past Week (6/19-6/26)

As always, here is the weekly review of the posts from Twitter and/or Facebook. At least the best of them. And if these are the best, you can just imagine how the others were.

It’s 6.5 of one, half a baker’s dozen of the other. (So said someone with too much math on their hands.)

Bad guessing games: “I’m thinking of a number between 4 and 6.” (“I’ll take ‘c’.”)

Big snake in the road as I was on my way home late last night. I did not stop to offer it a ride. (I was afraid it would have said yes.)

It’s the longest day of the year. That means I could have stayed in bed longer, doesn’t it? (What to do with all that extra time?)

There is no way that today can actually be the longest day of the year. It isn’t Monday. (Mondays are long, Summer solstice or not.)

So maybe today really is the longest day of the year. (It seems I spoke too soon, earlier.)

Why do you have two eyes but only one nose? So that you can look better than you smell. (Makes sense to me.)

Good morning to you! And you! And you, too! And you in the back! (And you over there - what’s up with your hair?)

I would say something deep and meaningful, but it is me we’re talking about here. (Enough said.)

The bad thing about Vacation Bible School being over is that I will miss hanging out with all my church friends tonight. (Worship is good, but we need more social time, too!)

Sitting on the front porch to watch the sunset. Except it isn’t quite time for the sun to set yet. I can wait. (It’s not like I can get the sun to hurry up or anything.)
