A Snow Day at Home
A light blanket of snow covers the ground in our front yard on a cold, gray winter day.
In case you were wondering after the last post about what kind of winter weather we ended up with, here it is. There were forecasts of 3" to 8", and what we got was definitely on the lower end of that. There was also talk of blizzard-like conditions with strong winds during the snow, but since we didn’t go anywhere when the snow was coming down, it wasn’t an issue for us.
It may not be the most beautiful snow, because it didn’t even cover up all of the leftover grass and wild onions in the yard, but it was still enough to shut down much of the things around here. Because of the forecast of snow, Laura and Jaylin found out on Thursday that school for them would be closed on Friday. I didn’t mind that at all, because that meant that we didn’t have to get up Friday morning and try to figure out what to do. And better yet, we knew we wouldn’t have to worry about leaving home, only to have to turn around once things got bad. Most all of the area schools and several businesses did the same thing, according to the ticker across the bottom of the television screen Thursday night.
I know that in the northern areas, this wouldn’t be enough snow to sneeze at. But people around here just don’t know how to drive on snow, because we get so little of it, so everyone who can wants to play it safe whenever we get anything that might be slippery. I do feel sorry for those who had to go out in it, and I hope that they were able to get where they were going safely.
And while I am really not a cold weather fan at all, I don’t mind seeing the different look that snow gives to things. Even if I just run out on the front porch to grab a quick photo and then look at everything through the windows from inside the nice warm house.

About the Photo
As I mentioned, this was just a quick shot from the front porch, as I ran out there to brave the cold for a few minutes. Frequent site visitors probably recognize those two trees, because they are a favorite subject of mine when shooting around the house.
I didn’t do anything very fancy in the way of processing here, besides some minor adjustments here and there. Because of the gray nature of the snow and clouds, there wasn’t much to do with the color saturation, so I just adjusted the highlights and shadows to my liking and left it at that. A nice, simple winter scene.
