A Park in Nassau

Passing By the Park

As we were walking through Nassau in the Bahamas during a stop on our 2017 Disney Cruise, we came across this small park right in the middle of town. It was not anything extravagant. Just some palm trees, some planting areas, and some benches, along with a couple of commemorative statues and monuments across the way.

There were not many people there at the time, as you can see. But the lack of people was probably largely due to the rain that had just fallen. The walkways were still wet, and it was in fact still sprinkling at this time.

Like everyone else, we did not linger long here, again, mainly due to the rain. We had been waiting under cover for the rain to end, and when it did we decided to head back to our ship.

In the past when we have passed this park, there have been more people just hanging around or sitting on the benches. But this time, I liked the nearly empty view. And then we moved on along on our way.

Simplicity

There is nothing all that outstanding about this photo. There are no major landmarks as the central focus of the composition. No people besides those way off in the distance. No beach, no blue sky, no amazing natural feature.

This will probably not be the most popular photo at the Burnsland site. It will probably not be pinned multiple times at Pinterest or get hundreds of likes at Instagram.

But I like it.

When I was looking through my Nassau photos, this one quickly caught my eye. I think what I liked about it the most was its simplicity. Just some palm trees, some wet walkways, some buildings off in the distance. It was simple.

Many times I post photos here that I hope will be quite popular and bring in lots of people. But sometimes I post photos here that I like, even though I get the feeling that not everyone else will like it. And there is nothing wrong with that.

About the photo

Despite the shadows from the lack of strong light due to the rain, I was still able to achieve a fairly balanced photo by using the Raw file. Yes, I mention something along the lines of the importance of shooting in Raw mode quite often, but it really does help, I think.

I especially liked the rainy look of this photo. While I did brighten it up some and bring out the color saturation, I did not want to overdo it, so I did not spend a long time processing it. The processing of the photo was almost as simple as the photo itself, actually. That is pretty nice sometimes.
