A Ferryboat and the Magic Kingdom
A ferryboat leaves the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World and sails across Seven Seas Lagoon after dropping off its load of passengers.
As you might be able to guess from the angle of this photo, we were on another ferryboat heading toward the Magic Kingdom early in the morning. And we were joined by lots and lots of new close friends. Well, they were close friends in the sense that we had been standing really, really close to them while waiting for the next boat to arrive.
When we arrived at the Transportation and Ticket Center that morning, the Monorails weren’t yet running, and it was at that point that I remembered seeing something about reduced Monorail hours. It looked like we might have gotten on the Resort Monorail, but we opted to go to the ferry landing, thinking that it wouldn’t take all that long. However, we had to wait a bit for the next boat to arrive, and then we weren’t sure we were going to be on the first boat, either.
You really don’t realize how convenient the Monorails are until they aren’t running. And while the boats are nice and we sometimes choose those anyway, it is a different situation when everyone is trying to get on the boat because no one can get on the Monorail. Just as we were about to get on the boat, the first Monorail arrived, since they began running at 8:30 AM, but it was too late for us by then. We were already in the stampede to board the boat with the rest of the cattle herd.
By the time we got to the Magic Kingdom, the morning Welcome Show had already concluded, although we have seen that enough that we weren’t too sad to miss it. And the transportation issue was actually one of the few frustrations of the day, so it all worked out well in the long run.
I have since seen that the reduced Monorail hours schedule was only supposed to be through July, so perhaps that isn’t the case anymore now. Here’s hoping. Because having a choice is much better than having the choice made for you.
About the Photo
This would be just a little better if the whole ferryboat were in the frame, but I was just a little too late to get it all in. And since the lens I was using didn’t zoom, there wasn’t any chance of zooming out and recomposing quickly. Oh well, I still like how it turned out.
